the chance of giving birth to a healthy baby

Tuesday, October 26, 2010

An IVF test that trebles a woman’s chance of having a baby has been developed by scientists.

It could spare thousands of couples the heartache of miscarriage as well as removing the risk that children conceived by fertility treatment have of conditions such as Down’s syndrome.

It also offers hope to those undergoing fertility treatment in their late 30s and early 40s, who often struggle to get pregnant and, once they do, are more likely to lose the baby.

The test developed by American researchers is called Chromosome Aneuploidy Screening, has been so successful that experts believe it will be routinely available to women undergoing IVF in private clinics or on the NHS within the next three years.

The screening checks embryos for chromosome abnormalities. Any which are faulty are discarded, and only those which stand the best chance of developing into a healthy foetus are implanted back into the womb.

Trials have shown that up to 88 per cent of women receiving tested embryos give birth.

This is more than treble the success rate of IVF – only between 20 and 30 per cent of those undergoing treatment in Britain will have a baby.

The test, which was unveiled at the American Society for Reproductive Medicine conference in Denver, Colorado, costs £2,000 a time, on top of the normal price of IVF of around £4,000.

But its success rate means that couples paying for private treatment would potentially save thousands of pounds as they would probably need only one cycle.

It would also cut millions from the NHS’s fertility treatment bill. Couples are normally offered up to three free cycles of IVF at a total cost to the health service of 12,000.

Last year British scientists unveiled a similar screening technique that also used chromosome screening to select only the healthiest embryos for IVF.

But this latest method is at a far more advanced stage and has been subject to rigorous testing, unlike the British technique.

For this reason it is likely to be the first IVF screening method to be available in British clinics, and researchers believe it will be widely used within two or three years.

Tony Rutherford, chairman of the British Fertility Society, said: ‘It’s technically challenging but if held up in future research it is something we’d clearly like to see introduced in helping to select the best embryos to be transferred.’

Normally during IVF, up to 24 eggs are taken from a woman’s ovaries to be fertilised with her partner’s sperm. Doctors then look at the shape and size of the embryos and choose what they think are the healthiest ones to be implanted.

But experts say this current method is very unreliable at picking up faulty embryos.

In addition, many IVF clinics will implant two or three embryos to try and boost a woman’s chances of having a baby. Often more than one will develop into a foetus meaning she will have twins or triplets, which involves extra risks to the babies.

The new technique involves taking a sample from embryos when they are five days old and checking each of its 23 pairs of chromosomes. Only the healthiest single embryo is implanted in the womb.

Fight early pregnancy blues

Monday, October 18, 2010

Before most women enjoy the fact that they are going to give birth to the baby of their dreams, most of them feel overwhelmed by the innumerable physical and emotional changes taking place. The first trimester often means discomfort, morning sickness, fatigued, bloated bodies and hours of feeling low and cranky. However, realising that this is just a passing phase and using some expert advice can be of great help for expecting mothers.

Physical changes

The initial stage in a pregnancy often translates into the body craving more rest. With the levels of hormones progesterone and oestrogen increasing dramatically, women often have serious mood swings that continue through the pregnancy. The fact that your body is busy creating another life might just make you want to sleep longer than usual. Food cravings, constipation, morning sickness, irritable moods, growing and exceptionally tender breasts and a rounded body are other physical changes that plague most women.

Tips to cope with physical changes

• Eat small six meals

• Have high fibre food

• If you have morning sickness, limit fluids and eat dry snacks before coming out of bed

• Have glucose

• Have your folic acid and iron tablets on time as per your doctor’s instructions

Ruchika Pradhan Deshmukh, a young mother-to-be, says that “The first three months were really difficult in my case. But with advice from my doctors I was able handle it. What worked for me was keeping glucose handy, which in turn took care of the excessive fatigue I faced. Also, I avoided fluids in the mornings and evenings as I threw up almost all that I ate during those hours. Also, another tip that worked wonders for me was eating crackers or a dry snack like toast before getting out of the bed in the morning. This eased the nausea.”

GlaxoSmithKline ups albendazole worm drug donation

Thursday, October 14, 2010

Britain's biggest drug maker already supplies 600m albendazole tablets a year to the World Health Organisation (WHO) to treat a disease caused by a parasite transmitted between humans by mosquitoes.

Under the commitment announced today alongside WHO's first report on neglected tropical diseases, Glaxo will, from 2012, supply a further 400m albendazole pills a year over five years to de-worm children in Africa.

Andrew Witty, Glaxo chief executive, said supplying 1bn tablets annually will cost the company £12m a year and it will increase capacity through new investments in its factories in South Africa and India.

He added the extra supply meant that "albendazole will impact the most people in the world of any medicine we manufacture".

Combined with existing de-worming programmes, the extra supply should enable universal coverage of school-age children in Africa.

Dr Margaret Chan, WHO director-general said: "The Glaxo donation means that many millions more will benefit as part of a strategy that can break the cycle of poverty, ill-health, poor school performance, and lost productivity."

Mr Witty said he hoped the WHO report heralded "a new momentum in the fight against neglected tropical disease and I know there is a real appetite amongst my industry colleagues to play a full part".

An onion a day can keep strokes at bay | Red onion Day

Thursday, October 7, 2010

In the fight against heart disease, one of the secret weapons could be nestling in your vegetable rack.

Scientists have discovered that onions help reduce bad cholesterol, which can cause heart attacks and strokes.

At the same time the body retains good cholesterol, which help protect against heart disease. The researchers used red onions, but there appears no reason why the white variety normally used in Britain should not be just as effective.

The experiment involved feeding crushed red onions to hamsters which had been put on a high-cholesterol diet.

The scientists found that after eight weeks levels of bad cholesterol, or low density lipoprotein (LDL), had dropped by an average of 20 per cent.

But over the same time period there was no reduction in the hamsters' good cholesterol levels, also known as high density lipoprotein (HDL).

Zhen Yu Chen, who was in charge of the research carried out at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, said: "Despite extensive research on onions, little is known of how their consumption interacts with human genes and proteins involved in cholesterol metabolism within the body. These results support the claim that the regular consumption of onion reduces the risk of coronary heart disease."

Most popular

Although white onions are by far the most popular type in Britain, red onions are widely used in India, the Mediterranean and the Middle East. They are far sweeter than the white variety, and are often used raw in salads.

Red onion marmalade, made by cooking onions with vinegar and sugar, has recently become popular in Britain an alternative to chutney served with cheese or cold meat.

Onions have long been known to have many health benefits including preventing cancer, heart disease and common coughs and colds. Some parts of the world where onion consumption is high have even been shown to have much lower cancer rates.

Robo Chair by Luca Nichetto

Thursday, September 9, 2010

The Robo chair by Italian designer Luca Nichetto is “Kama Sutra meets Industrial Robotics.” The concept of dismantlement provided the spark for Robo’s design, which found inspiration in the Icelandic singer Björk’s 1999 video for the song “All Is Full of Love” directed by Chris Cunningham in which the main protagonists are robots that take on human characteristics.

“I find the idea that a robot could become a living being really exciting, and so I imagined what would happen if the same principle were applied to the design of a chair. The goal was to create an object that respected the environment by playing with a design comprised of separate pieces so that the chair could be transported in a small box. My vision became reality when I translated the forms of a ‘humanized’ robot into a chair, placing particular emphasis on the shapes of the robot’s ‘limbs’. The project couldn’t have been called anything other than Robo” (Luca Nichetto).

The Robo chair is indeed a design innovation with its completely new and unique look with separated seat and legs. When shipped, the disassembled components of the chair fit in a box measuring only 50 x 50 x 20cm which will save the transport cost.

5 Ways to Rev Up Metabolism and Jump-Start Weight Loss

ast winter, I put on a few extra pounds. It was probably 5 pounds or less, but my clothing fit differently and I didn’t like it. Usually, when I notice the pounds creeping on, I pay a little more attention to what I put into my mouth and spend a little more time at the gym. The weight usually comes off slowly, but eventually I’m back to my Feel Great Weight.

But this time, after a few weeks of small lifestyle tweaks, the scale still hadn’t gone back to “normal.” I didn’t want to drastically change my life by cutting out my favorite foods or spending hours and hours at the gym, so I focused on revving up my metabolism to jump-start my weight loss efforts.

Here’s what I did:

I ate breakfast
Breakfast really is the most important meal of the day. Eating breakfast within an hour or two of waking up jump-starts your metabolism because your body is running on empty after a night of not eating. Plus, eating early can help curb cravings and hunger throughout the day.

I went to bed earlier
When I didn’t get enough sleep, I felt myself reaching for snacks a lot more often. Research shows that people who don’t get enough sleep are more likely to gain weight over time. My lack of sleep messed with my hunger hormones, so I tended to overeat when I felt sleep-deprived.

I pumped some iron
A lot of women steer clear of strength training because they think they’ll bulk up, but this is not the case! I started taking Body Pump classes, and within a couple of months, I noticed a difference in my weight and how my body looked. Muscle burns more calories than fat, so adding a couple of full-body strength training workouts to my weekly routine definitely helped me tone up.
jump-start-weight-loss

I kicked up my cardio
Incorporating intervals into my cardio workouts maximized my calorie burn. Intervals vary the energy that your body uses, which keeps it guessing and ups your metabolic rate. You even benefit from an “after-burn” of calories when you finish your workout.

I added some protein
Instead of just winging it in the kitchen, I built my meals around low-fat protein, like tofu, beans, eggs, and lean meats. Protein helps your muscles recover after a workout and makes them stronger. It also takes more energy to digest protein, which means you’re burning calories without even trying! Plus, adding protein to my meals satisfied me for long stretches of time, which meant that I’d consume fewer calories overall.

'Sunshine vitamin' helps beat cancer

Friday, September 3, 2010

Milk fortified with vitamin D can make our bones not only stronger but also prevent heart disease and cancer, a new study says.

In colder countries with poor or erratic sunshine, half the population is likely to be low in the 'sunshine vitamin'.

The vitamin is vital for calcium absorption and bone health and may help to prevent Alzheimer's, reports the Daily Mail.

Vitamin D-rich foods include oily fish and eggs but with 90 percent coming from the action of sunlight on the skin there are concerns that advice on abstaining from sunbathing is unnecessarily restrictive.

Recent research has shown that vitamin D supplements are as good as some drugs at keeping prostate cancer under control.

It is also being said that taking vitamin D supplements in pregnancy and childhood could wipe out 80 percent of cases of multiple sclerosis.

Susan Lanham-New, the member of the Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition and Surrey University nutritionist, said a study of 14,000 pregnant women in Bristol during the 1990s found that more than 90 percent of them were not getting enough of the vitamin.

She said: "Vitamin D is known to be vital for a wide range of body functions. A lot of us are very worried about (deficiencies) and think it needs looking at."

Hinda Miller and Lisa Lindahl to cut a pair of jockstraps and sewed together in a bra and commercializes the article like the Jogbra.

In 1990 bought Playtex Jogbra de Lisa and its companions. This was followed by the innovating investigation of Christine Haycock, associated professor of surgery in the Medicine University and Dentistry of New Jersey. It measures the movement of the chest of the woman that is executed in tapes to run. Renelle Braaten, a hairdressing salon Mountain, had problems to contain its double-d while racquetball played and volleyball. The sport bra can encapsulate or compress the sines. Easy chairs bring change of heart

Tuesday, July 6, 2010

Our sense of touch has a significant bearing on our thoughts, behaviour and our overall perception of the world, new research reveals.

For the study, a Yale-led team of psychologists conducted a series of six experiments that have been documented in the June 25 issue of the journal Science.

Interviewers holding a heavy clipboard, compared to a light one, thought job applicants took their work more seriously. Subjects who read a passage about an interaction between two people were more likely to characterize it as adversarial if they had first handled rough jigsaw puzzle pieces, compared to smooth ones. And people sitting in hard, cushionless chairs were less willing to compromise in price negotiations than people who sat in soft, comfortable chairs.

"It is behavioral priming through the seat of the pants," said John A. Bargh of Yale, co-author of the paper along with former Yale researchers Joshua M. Ackerman, now of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Christopher C. Nocera of Harvard.

The work builds upon Bargh's 2008 study with Yale Ph.D. student Lawrence Williams, now of the University of Colorado, which found that people judge other people to be more generous and caring after they had briefly held a warm cup of coffee, rather than a cold drink.

Bargh said: "The old concepts of mind-body dualism are turning out not to be true at all. Our minds are deeply and organically linked to our bodies."

Bargh notes that physical concepts such as roughness, hardness, and warmth are among the first that infants develop. They are critical to how young children and adults eventually develop abstract concepts about people and relationships, such as discerning the meaning of a warm smile or a hard heart, he said.

Many More Youngsters Opting for Cosmetic Surgery

Friday, June 25, 2010

Looks are apparently on top of the shopping list of teenagers these days as many more of them seem to be opting for cosmetic surgery.

Ajay Kashyap, Cosmetic Surgeon at Apollo Hospital, revealed that he was seeing younger patients in high numbers these days. “I have seen a huge increase in the number of cosmetic surgery cases. Four years back, I had rounded about 80 cases, but now it is 120 cases a year,” he said.

The pressure to look good and thrive in friends ‘circle is a trigger for this rise in the number of teens opting to go under the knife to get that perfect nose or that perfect chin.

“Youngsters these days don’t mind going under the knife. All they want is the desired look. This trend catches up before the new session in college begins,” Dr Kashyap agreed.

Furthermore the plethora of television channels popularizes a particular look and teens want to appear like their favorite Bollywood star or cricketer and they do not mind shelling out Rs.60, 000 and Rs.100, 000 for the same.

However experts have cautioned that it is not advisable to go for cosmetic surgery so early in life.

2. Do not fidget, fiddle, or touch face
What do you normally do with your hands? Twitching and fidgeting is very unattractive, look around and see it in other people. It makes you look nervous. Keep your hands by your sides. Place the thump on the index and middle fingers, this removes the natural need for the fingers to constantly be doing something.

3. Dont look downKeep your head up
If you need to look away, look up, never look down, its a sign of weakness and also looks unattractive. You can observe this in others. Looking down even has been proven to have a bad effect on your mental state.

4. Make slow head movements
High status males everywhere, on film, in business, and in your social circle have certain things in common. One of which is slow, smooth movements. Look around slowly and smoothly, dont dart around and jolt your head around like you have been drinking espressos all day long. Think smooth, think James Bond. 5. Walk more slowly and smoothly
This is more high-status behaviour. By being smooth and comfortable you give off a sense of quiet confidence. You stand out from the people rushing around. In a bar or club, slow it down even more, you will stand out, in a good way.

6. Hold your drink by your side
When you have a drink, hold it by your side. It is a blocking action to hold a drink in front of your chest.

Do these things and you will make a better first impression and stand out from the other men in a room. If you are ever internally uncomfortable, you can still appear confident and composed by following the above rules.

Alcoholism during pregnancy ups epilepsy risk in children

Thursday, April 8, 2010

Children who suffer from fetal alcohol spectrum disorder or FASD is at least six times more likely to suffer from epilepsy in their later stage, indicates a study. These children are also likely to suffer at least one seizure during their lifetime.

Fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD) may cause permanent birth defects caused by drinking alcohol during pregnancy. A link between alcohol consumption during pregnancy and rates of drinking alcohol, drug abuse, depression and even stroke and Parkinson’s disease has been indicated in the previous research studies.

According to neuroscientists, this latest study will help in understanding the risks posed to the unborn child by alcohol consumption though it is difficult to establish the causes between drinking and epilepsy. Drinking during pregnancy can put a child at greater risk of various neurologic and behavioral health problems.

The researchers examined the case studies of 425 women from two FASD clinics and looked for a correlation between alcohol consumption during pregnancy and incidences of epilepsy or seizures during their later lives.

James Reynolds of the Centre for Neuroscience Studies at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario said, the findings of this study support a growing impression that fetal alcohol exposure may predispose the immature brain to the development of epilepsy but the results do not put up a direct cause-effect relationship between FASD and epilepsy.

"Establishing a direct link between these clinical conditions will be a difficult challenge given our incomplete understanding of how ethanol damages the developing brain and what neuropathological changes in brain tissue lead to the development of different types of epilepsy."

Another research by the researchers from Perth’s Telethon Institute for Child Health Research found that the amount and timing of alcohol consumption in pregnancy can affect behavior of a child in different ways. The study published in the international journal Addiction, found that exposure to moderate or heavy levels of alcohol in late pregnancy increases the risk of aggressive behavior in child.

Scientists and clinical investigators worldwide suggest that a woman should keep herself away from alcohol during pregnancy and concentrate on having a healthy prenatal care and include good nutritious diet, adequate exercise with appropriate amount of rest for a healthy child birth.

Study: Small soda taxes don't dent child obesity

Sunday, April 4, 2010

Weightloss News

Small taxes on soda do little to reduce soft drink consumption or prevent childhood obesity, but larger levies probably would, according to new research.

The study is being released as a recent wave of proposals would raise soda taxes or create new ones on sugared beverages. But they'll have to be a lot steeper than current taxes, which are generally 4% or less, said Roland Sturm, lead author of the new research.

Best Time to Visit India - Travel Documents

The best time to visit India is between October and March. The summer heat has abated by then in the northern plains and in Rajasthan’s arid landscape. The wet Northeast becomes somewhat drier, the south becomes a breathtaking scene of swaying coconut palms and rain showers spray Tamil Nadu. Most

of India’s colourful festivals are in this period. Dussehra, which is celebrated like Guy Fawkes Day but with dramatis personae from the epic drama of Ramayana, is followed 20 days later by the festival of light, firecrackers and joyous pyrotechnics, Diwali. Come March, come Holi: coloured powder, water fights and sweetmeats! Besides these that are universal favourites across the country, there are regional festivals. Harvest festivals, car festivals, dance festivals and numerous temple celebrations pepper south India’s calendar in December-January. Pretty Pushkar in Rajasthan holds Asia’s largest camel fair in November; Mardi Gras in Goa and the muezzin’s call heralding Id. The winter is also ideal for wildlife enthusiasts. The major deterrent to visiting during any other time is the heat. However, the months from March-May and September-November are prime trekking time in the Himalayas, and if you plan to concentrate on hilly areas then this is a better period in which to visit.

There’s enough variety in tourist accommodation in India for the visitor to always find comfort; degrees of luxury though will be directly proportionate to the degree of the depth of your pocket. Hotels are graded on the star system: 5-star being fully air conditioned, with a coffee shop, multiple

speciality restaurants, pool, sauna, Jacuzzi, health centre, in-house shopping and all the razzmatazz. Down to hostels, ashrams, and Public Works’ guesthouses at the other end of the spectrum: dormitory style living with rationed hot water (just about enough for a decent shave!), no-smoking no-drinking restrictions and curfew! There are numerous other options and you’ll never be stuck in a heap because there isn’t a choice. Even the smallest tourist destination has mid-rung establishments. Some have common bathrooms but there usually will be the option of renting a room with an attached bathroom. Some mid-rung establishments are better than others. There are many that have cosy atmosphere and make up in character what they lack in frills. In many wildlife sanctuaries, there is accommodation in the park’s buffer zone. Forest guesthouses are very basic accommodation, and some require you to bring your own provisions, but their privileged location more than compensates. Heritage hotels and palace hotels are probably an Indian peculiarity. Some old rajahs, especially in Rajasthan, have converted part of their palaces into hotels. These give the visitor a great shot at savouring famed Indian hospitality at its quaint and genteel best. The government is promoting Home Stays where some pre-approved families provide paying guest accommodation and this has taken off in a big way in Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan. There are beach resorts that give you access to exclusive sand so you may sun and surf in style. Houseboats in Kashmir, hardy little huts along trekking trails and numerous camping sites only widen the range that the traveller can choose from. Home stays are fast catching on and have become quite popular. This is a great way to get an insight as to how Indian families live.

How to Handle Snake Bite

Wednesday, March 31, 2010

Snake bites can be fatal if not treated. They have a greater impact on children because of their smaller size.

If a person is bitten, running after the snake to catch it may not be a good idea.

Here are some tips that would guide you in the event of a snake bite!

Beat the Panic

The first step in the event of snake bite is to calm the patient.

Panic increases BP and pulse rate and carries the venom faster through the victim's body.

Restrict Movements

If the snake - bite is on the arm, then use a sling bandage for support.

If the bite is on the leg, then use a splint and tie it to the leg using a cloth. Do not tighten the cloth. The purpose is to immobilize the leg till treatment.

Remove any rings or bangles to avoid complications in case of swelling.

Symptoms

Common symptoms -

Difficulty in breathing/speaking
Droopy eyelids/blurred vision
Bleeding from gums/wounds
Increased swelling
Dizziness/convulsions/
Severe pain
Loss of consciousness
Nausea/fainting
Increased thirst

Treatment

Lack of treatment can be deadly even if symptoms do not appear.

Shift the patient to the hospital, for modern treatment, as soon as possible.

An injection with the right anti - venom is life-saving!

Herbs, snakestones or traditional medicines would be a colossal waste of precious time.

DO NOT

Do not cut the bite with sharp tools, like blade
Do not apply pressure, such as by using cold compressors
Do not use tourniquet
Do not suck out the venom orally
Do not feed or give anything to the patient orally
Do not give medicines, unless instructed by a doctor
Do not try to raise the site of bite to above the level of heart

Prevention

It may not be possible to completely avoid snake bite but the following steps may be considered -

Avoid areas where snakes are commonly found such as under rocks and logs
If you are a frequent trekker then carry a first aid kit for emergencies including snake bite
Make a tapping noise when you trek. Snakes will slither away and avoid you
Never provoke a snake

Diabetic retinopathy is a complication of diabetes that results from damage to the blood vessels of the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye (retina). At first, diabetic retinopathy may cause no symptoms or only mild vision problems. Eventually, however, diabetic retinopathy can result in blindness.

Diabetic retinopathy can develop in anyone who has type 1 diabetes or type 2 diabetes. The longer you have diabetes, and the less controlled your blood sugar is, the more likely you are to develop diabetic retinopathy.

Now gently open your eyes and look into the distance. Next focus on an object at arm's length. Do this extremely relaxing exercise four or five times a day.

* If your eye twitches, or your eyes are red and feeling itchy, massage your scalp with curd.

* Soak 1 tsp. dry amla in one cup of water overnight. Next morning strain it through a muslin cloth and then add one extra cup of water. Splash your eyes with this solution each morning. This makes your eyes sparkle.

* For Puffy Eyes: Grate a potato with its peel and apply on your closed eyelids for about 20 minutes and relax completely. You may even take a nap.
* Wash your face before sleeping, and ensure that there is no make-up on your face before you sleep, because, make-up creams may spoil your face as it will be there for the whole night. It is better if no cream is applied. What I feel is, wash your face before sleeping and if at all you want to apply any cream, just apply night cream and none other than that.

Common Sense Advice for Beginners - Yoga Tips

Beginners Yoga Tips
* Borrow or buy a yoga book (or even better a DVD or video) that's aimed at beginners. The health and wellness section of any good bookstore will have good books that offer plenty of yoga tips and visual demonstrations of poses.

* Using the examples in your book, DVD or video to practice at home will help you master some of the poses before you start attending classes, and help build your confidence.

* There are MANY different styles of yoga, each with a different emphasis (eg stretching, strength, or fitness) and it's important to find the one that best suits you.

* Find a teacher that you like and trust, and who gives all their students individual help and attention as needed. A good teacher will gladly pass on his or her own yoga tips.
* The best time for yoga is in the morning before breakfast, or later in the evening.

* Before beginning a yoga class you should empty your bowels and bladder, and remove mucus from your nose, throat and lungs.

* It's best to wear clothing that's loose and comfortable, for easy movement.

*Try to avoid eating (except for a light snack if you need it) for 2 hours before a class, as it will more than likely make you feel tired and heavy.

*Try and be punctual to classes; the poses are done in sequence for a reason.

*Make sure you completely master the easy poses before you move onto the harder ones. DON'T feel foolish if you can't master a difficult pose the first few times you attempt it.
* If you have a permanent injury or condition that you think could be worsened by doing yoga, have a chat with your doctor about which poses might be best avoided.

* Be sure to tell your yoga instructor before the class if you are ill or injured; they can tell you how to alter the poses to avoid making things worse.

* Whatever you do, DON'T force yourself to look exactly like the instructor in the class, the person on the TV or the picture in the book. Just because you mightn't look exactly like your instructor when you do a particular pose, doesn't mean you're not doing it "right". Forcing your body beyond its' limits will only cause injury.

* Be wary of the difference between feeling sensations or resistance and feeling pain; you should not feel pain while doing yoga, and if you do it could mean you aren't doing something right or need to adjust a pose to suit you better.

* Many yoga instructors assist students hands-on; if they try and move your body too much for you, or force your body into various poses, however, you could end up injured.

Why Wait Any Longer? Use the Power of Yoga

Monday, February 22, 2010

If you have ever tried to lose weight, then you probably already know what doctors and weight loss experts know: most weight loss diets only bring temporary results.

If you take some diet pills and you may lose weight because your appetite is temporarily suppressed. When you stop taking the pills your appetite will return and you will be faced with the same problem. The pills are a short term solution, and in some cases may even be harmful to you.

If you adopt an extreme weight loss diet you may get dramatic results while you stay on the diet, but if you live a normal life, surrounded by your family and friends, you probably will not be able to stay on that diet for a long time. As soon as you quit the diet and return to your old ways, you will gain weight again. In addition, as with pills, many weight loss diets, are not healthy and can even be harmful

For long term weight loss you need to go to the root of the problem and make changes in your life and lifestyle. Excess weight in our society is mostly due to a sedentary lifestyle and poor selection of food. It may also be due to psychological stress and in some cases metabolic problems (that is, your body is not efficient in turning food into energy).
